Funeral arrangememts announced for Charles Easter

By Lori Dougovito

Burton (WJRT) [Mid-Michigan] — (02/29/08)–No charges have come yet for the Burton man police believe beat his roommate to death. Charles Easter, 58, died Thursday morning from those injuries.

The suspect may be charged Saturday. Right now, he’s waiting in the Genesee County Jail while Easter’s family plans a funeral.

To family and friends Charles Easter was just “Chuck.”

Friends say he was a happy-go-lucky guy who loved the outdoors and a good adventure, even though he couldn’t get around all that well.

“He’s been handicapped since he was 7,” said brother Stephen Easter.

He had a genetic condition called dystonia, his brother says. His muscle coordination wasn’t that good. If someone was to come at him, he couldn’t defend himself at all.

It’s still unclear what exactly happened in Easter’s death, but police say Easter was badly beaten. He had multiple fractures to his head, face and chest.

A neighbor says someone dumped Easter at the hospital. His 31-year-old roommate is in jail awaiting charges for his murder.

Easter’s family thinks he wanted the roommate to move out and they got into an argument.

Easter’s family and friends are holding a candlelight vigil Friday night outside of his home on East Scottwood Avenue in Burton. It begins at 8: 30 p.m.

Please bring your own candle.

Easter’s funeral arrangements have been made. The funeral will be held at Swartz Funeral Home at 1225 W. Hill Road in Mundy Township.

Visitation for family is Sunday from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 12 p.m. To 8 p.m. for the public.

The funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m
