Springfield, Mass.— Police in Springfield are looking for a student accused of punching a substitute teacher in the face during a high school math class.

Police said the teenager attacked the teacher, a 52-year-old disabled man, after being asked to show his student identification badge.

The teacher was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

The Republican newspaper of Springfield says police have identified 18-year-old Steven Jerel Malloy as the suspect in Tuesday’s incident at the High School of Science and Technology.

Public school students in Springfield are supposed to wear ID badges, but officials say many do not.

School Superintendent Joseph Burke was scheduled to meet with school principals Friday to discuss how to better enforce the rule.
