Man Charged With Stealing Hundreds From Disabled Man

Police Say Man Used ATM Card To Make Withdrawals

WMUR 9 – New Hampshire News

Manchester, N.H. — A Hooksett, N.H., man was charged with stealing hundreds of dollars from a disabled man he befriended, police said.

Michael Campbell, 23, was charged with identity fraud, a felony. Police said that a 61-year-old Manchester man told them he suspected that Campbell withdrew more than $600 from his bank account.

The Manchester man told police that Campbell would visit him and sometimes sleep at his apartment when he had no place to go. Because the Manchester man is an amputee, he would sometimes give his ATM card to friends to run errands for him, police said.

The man told police that he suspected Campbell stole his ATM card and used it for unauthorized withdrawals.

“Investigators identified the suspect and then through bank surveillance photos were able to confirm that he was the one who was using the ATM card and making those withdrawals,” Sgt. Maureen Tessier said.

Because the charge is a felony, no plea was entered on Friday. He is scheduled back in court on April 29 for a probable cause hearing.
