A disabled man was attacked by a man who stole his cash and bus pass in Northampton, police have said.

The 44-year-old disabled man was riding on a mobility scooter along Barrack Road when he was approached by a man who threatened him and then grabbed him and punched him in the face.

He then stole his cash and other documents including his bus pass in the incident on Saturday night.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said they believed the offender followed the man and targeted him because of his vulnerability.

PC Mark Holland said: “The offender was clearly aware of the vulnerability of the victim.

“The circumstances of this crime indicate that the victim was deliberately targeted on account of his disability, it would appear that the offender followed him home and carefully planned this attack.

“This crime has had a significant impact on the victim and has affected his mobility, independence and confidence.”
